Classes – Penguin Hills

Yoga for me is about each person fulfilling their own potential for their body, mind and breath in a safe, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. We commence with a mindful practice, then do postures that can be adapted for each student and finish with a relaxation. Each term has its own focus, with suitable modifications for each session. Each class prepares the body in turn for the next posture in a safe way. All classes focus on immune health and stress reduction if necessary. I also weave into the session appropriate snippets on the philosophy and psychology of yoga.

Classes are small (up to 8 students) and are held in my beautiful home studio in a rural location only 3 km from Penguin. Enjoy the peace of yoga with a backdrop of a forest and Bass Strait and the sound of the bush birds. You will complete a Client Information sheet so I can teach you safely. Since Covid students please need to bring your own yoga mat and blanket, cushion and strap. A Hepa filter is in the studio.

Stability, strength, mobility and balance with adaptations for all our bodies and conditions is the essence of Pilates. Our Pilates classes are a chance to work on ourselves in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The focus of the class changes each term and is structured so that each week builds on the previous week or individual goal. Importantly students tell me they take their focus on stability into their daily lives so that even attending once a week improves their health.

Small classes are held in my beautiful home studio in a rural location only 3 km from Penguin. Enjoy the focus of Pilates with a backdrop of a forest and Bass Strait and the sound of bush birds. You will complete a Client Information sheet and enjoy a Pilates practice tailored to your individual needs. We use a mat, cushion, strap and hand-weights and stretchy straps as needed. Since Covid students bring their own equipment.

Private sessions help you to have a personally focussed and tailor-made yoga or Pilates practice suited to your specialised needs. You will complete a Client Information Form which will detail your medical history as well as your aims and needs. The first session usually lasts an hour and a quarter, then every session after that lasts an hour. You will be given a personalised practice perhaps with recordings on your phone.

Some people like to have a series of private sessions to really hone their practices and skills, and some like to have a session every few weeks to monitor their improvements of required changes.  Some people have private sessions in order to improve how they go about the practices in their weekly class.

For many, the aim is therapeutic so that you can have a home-practice that you can continue to do to improve your health in whichever way is suitable for you. For example, Yoga Therapy is usually for those with a compromised health condition who really want a home-practice to help their physical and mental/emotional response to their condition. The practice may be a combination or any one of physical, meditative, breathing or relaxation practices.

The therapeutic practice for Pilates will be more physical but can include a relaxation if you so desire.

As a highly experienced yoga therapist, I will take great care to really hone into your needs and create a well-balanced practice. Please contact me by phone or email if you would like a private session and we shall work from there.
